I’m a big fan of Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon and I’ve taken part several times since first discovering it around six / seven years ago. I wasn’t intending to join in today as I’m meant to be at a wedding, but the ongoing lockdown means that it has been postponed, and I thought that I might as well put my time to good use!
Here’s my opening survey! 😎
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
I’m in Derbyshire, UK. It’s sunny and warm here, so I’m kicking off readathon in my garden.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
This is so difficult! I like to have a theme for readathon – something that allows for enough variety while having a (sometimes tenuous!) link. My theme for this readathon is indie publishers, and I’ve got a great little selection of books which I’m really looking forward to, plus a couple of backups, just in case.
If you’re going to make me choose just one that I’m most looking forward to, I’d probably have to say Barn 8, simply because I love the idea of a chicken heist!
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
For snacks, I like to keep it simple with things such as salted popcorn and ice cream. I’ve got a wonderful little selection of Häagen Dazs miniatures, so plenty of options, and they’re tiny, so I can justify having more than one on readathon weekend! 😉
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I’m Jo, and I’ve always loved reading. I like a wide range of books, but particularly dystopian and post- apocalyptic fiction. My favourite novels include Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood and Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell.
5) If you participated in the last readathon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first readathon, what are you most looking forward to?
As I mentioned above, I’ve taken part in Dewey’s readathon several times, but I do have a slightly different plan of attack this time around. I normally push myself to read for as long as possible in the 24-hour period – usually around 16 hours, as I like sleep too much to read for the whole 24-hour period.
Given everything that going on right now, I’m avoiding anything that results in unnecessary pressure, and that applies to readathon as well. I’ll read for as long as I can, but I’m not setting myself a target of reading so many pages or books, or reading for a certain length of time – I’m just going to relax and take it easy 😊
