This Week in Books – 01-04-26

This Week in Books is a feature hosted by Lipsy at Lipsyy Lost and Found that allows bloggers to share:

  • What they’ve recently finished reading
  • What they are currently reading
  • What they are planning to read next

A similar meme is run by Taking on a World of Words.

The last book I finished reading was Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros.

SECRETS. SACRIFICE. SURVIVAL.

Against all odds, Violet Sorrengail made it through her first year at Basgiath War College, but now, the real training begins. The stakes are higher than ever, and a determination to survive won’t be enough this time.

When a powerful new enemy threatens everything she cares about, including the man she loves, Violet must do whatever it takes to keep their secrets safe. One wrong move could have horrifying consequences – and as the web of lies spun by those in charge starts to unravel, nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.

THE DEADLY SECOND YEAR AT BASGIATH AWAITS

Curious to see what happens next, I’m currently reading Onyx Storm.

A STORM IS COMING… AND NOT EVERYONE CAN SURVIVE ITS WRATH.

After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons and no more time for uncertainty – the battle has truly begun. With enemies closing in from all corners, they need an army. They need power. And they need to unravel the dark truth about what’s really happening on the continent before it’s too late.

Violet must embark on her most dangerous mission yet and travel beyond the failing wards to seek allies who will stand with Navarre. The trip will push her to the very edge of her power, and the odds of dying are far greater than the hope of success. But Violet will risk everything to save her dragons, her family, and him… even if it means keeping a secret so big it could destroy them all.

ARE YOU READY TO BRAVE THE DARK?

My next read might be Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert, my edition translated by Christopher Moncrieff.

Beautiful Emma Rouault yearns for the life of wealth, passion and romance she has encountered in popular sentimental fiction, and when her doctor, the well-meaning but awkward and unremarkable Charles Bovary, begins to pay her attention, she imagines that she may be granted her wish. However, after their marriage, Emma soon becomes frustrated with the boredom of provincial life and finds herself seeking escape and contemplating adultery.

As Emma’s efforts to make a reality of her fantasies become more dangerous, both she and those around her must face the shattering consequences of her actions. Causing widespread scandal when it was published in 1857, Madame Bovary is Gustave Flaubert’s masterpiece and one of the landmark works of nineteenth-century realist fiction.

And that’s my week in books! What are you reading this week? Let me know in the comments! 😎
