Monthly Wrap Up

The month that was… February 2025

I’m not sure how it’s possible for a month to both fly by and drag its heels, but February has somehow managed it. It feels like a long time since I wrote my January post, and yet I can’t believe that we’re into March already. I am enjoying the longer nights though, and there’s a hint of spring in the air, although I wonder if winter will have one last big hurrah before finally surrendering.

February was pretty busy. I’ve seen a lot of family, which has been nice, and have managed to get out walking on weekends. I also went to Sweden for a work trip mid-month, which was a lot of fun (as well as being a serious work visit). A few of us did an escape room which was Sherlock Holmes themed (and thankfully in English!) which was very good.

All of that has meant that it’s been (another 😬) relatively quiet month on the blog, although I have still managed to post intermittently rather than giving up completely as has happened before.

My favourite books this month

I also read / reviewed:

  • The Artist by Lucy Steeds
  • The Pandominion duology (Infinity Gate and Echo of Worlds) by M. R. Carey
  • The Other Americans by Laila Lalami
  • The Hunted by Gabriel Bergmoser
  • The Ladies of Grace Adieu by Susanna Clarke
  • The Woman in the Wallpaper by Lora Jones
  • Tyll by Daniel Kehlmann, translated by Ross Benjamin
  • North Woods by Daniel Mason

Books acquired

A slightly less modest haul than last month, but I have some great reading ahead of me!

It’s going in the right direction, for now at least…

And that’s my bookish month! I hope you had a good one, and that next month is even better! Happy reading! 🥰

  1. pretty awesome month fair play!

looking forward to seeing what you read in March!

    1. Thanks, Rachel! I am tempted to start doing a planned reading for the month ahead type post, but I change my mind so much, I’m not sure there’s much point! 😂

Hope you have a great month! x

      1. Thank you! I love planning but then I am such a mood reader I hate my own plans 🤣x

  2. Hi Jo,

I really wanna goto Sweden myself as it’s a great place to go birdwatching (I hear). Looks like you got a busy month ahead.

I’m currently doing a 50BooksAt50 challenge and am still looking for suggestions to fill my last few remaining empty years.

Have started purchasing a few books from the Folio Society so not acquired as many books as I normally get but these are a good investment anyway.

BTW have you checked out the Hardcover app as yet? I deleted my Goodreads account and joined that instead. May have to write up a post myself about it.

    Enjoy March.

    1. Hi Phill,

I’ve not been very far off the beaten track in Sweden, but I can imagine that once you get out of the cities that it would be an excellent place for birdwatching and nature watching of all kinds.

I love the look of your challenge, and the variety of books and authors that you’ve already pencilled in. I’ve made a couple of suggestions on your blog post.

I’m a big fan of the Folio Society. Such great quality books, and we must be nearly due for the spring collection…

I’ve not heard of the Hardcover app, but I’ll take a look. I’ve never been a fan of Goodreads, and have posted a few reviews there at the publisher’s or author’s request, but I track my reading in my own spreadsheet.

      All the best, Jo

  3. What did you think of Northwoods? I keep going back and forth on whether to purchase it or not. Although, wait, never mind. You already made me add Perilous Times to the list 😄.

Looks like you had a wonderful month. I can’t wait for Spring to arrive so hopefully March will bring that and lots of other goodies for both of us!

    1. North Woods is one that I ummed and ahhed over for ages. I liked it, but I can’t honestly say that I loved it.

And yes to spring! Without wanting to jinx it, the weather here has been lovely the last few days…

      Here’s to a great March! x

      1. Excellent. That’s a “no” then. The budget thanks you 😄.

I think we might be having a day or two of 15-16 degrees near the end of the week but for now, it’s literally freezing.

    1. Thanks, Nicki. I mremeber your review of that one, and I’m really looking forward to it! x
