Hi everyone – I hope you’re all doing ok. It feels as though there’s a hint of spring in the air, although every time I decide to leave my jacket at home, it drops cold again. Oh well – nice weather must be imminent now, surely? At least the nights are lighter even if it is still a bit chilly.
April has been a busy month, not least because I made a return to blogging after an unintended hiatus. I also had a holiday in France with my other half, his sister, and her two boys (14 and 10) which was great fun. We drove down to Fontainebleau, had a day trip to Paris (which unintentionally coincided with the marathon), and called in at Disneyland on the way back. It was great fun and really nice to get away.
As you may have gathered from my recent This Week in Books posts, I’ve got a lot of reading done this month, and have read 12 books. I even managed to review one or two of them…
Read in April:
- Girl in Snow by Danya Kukafka
- The Fury by Alex Michaelides
- The Anomaly by Hervé le Tellier translated by Adriana Hunter
- The Second Sleep by Robert Harris
- Arsene Lupin the Hollow Needle by Maurice Leblanc (translator sadly unacknowledged in my edition)
- Maurice and Maralyn by Sophie Elmhirst
- Chocolat by Joanne Harris
- Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier
- The Mother Code by Carole Stivers
- Night Side of the River by Jeanette Winterson
- The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin
- The Fervor by Alma Katsu

I also posted about my return to blogging, with a vague explanation of my circa two month absence, the books that I’m particularly looking forward to for the next quarter, and a spell the month in books post, covering March and April.
Books acquired
TBR Watch
- Books out = 12 read + 1 DNF* = 13
- Books in = 12
- Gives an decrease of 1 in my TBR (slow and steady wins the race, right?)
*I may come back to the DNF at a later date, but for now it has been removed from my TBR.

Looks and sounds like a fab bookish month Jo! I can’t decide if I want to read The Fury or not, so look forward to your review.
Thanks, Nicki! I really enjoyed it, but I’ll be honest – I didn’t draft a review or make notes at the time, so I’m unlikely to get around to reviewing it now x
Fair enough! x
Sounds like an amazing month in reading. I hope May turns out just as good.
Thank you, Yesha! 🙂
As someone who doesn’t really read fantasy, I absolutely loved Voyage of the Damned!
So good to have you back around these parts, Jo! xx
I first came across it on your blog – maybe on your this week in books post(s)? Loved the sound of it, and when it was available for £0.99 on Kindle, I couldn’t resist!
And thanks, it’s nice to be back x
Yep, that’s possible. I wanted to review it but pesky words and all that 🤷🏼♀️😄
I know the feeling well! x
