Shelf Control

Shelf Control – 19-06-19

Shelf Control is a meme run by Lisa at Bookshelf Fantasies.  It is a weekly celebration of the unread books on our shelves.  Pick a book you own but haven’t read, write a post about it (suggestions: include what it’s about, why you want to read it, and when you got it), and link up!

For more info on what Shelf Control is all about, check out Lisa’s introductory post.

I’ve decided that I’m going to tackle my unread books in order of acquisition, starting with the books that have been sat on my shelf the longest.

three things about elsie

  • Title: Three Things About Elsie
  • Author: Joanna Cannon
  • Published: 2018
  • Length: 464 pages
  • Bought / acquired: 26 July 2018

What’s It About?

84-year-old Florence has fallen in her flat at Cherry Tree Home for the Elderly. As she waits to be rescued, she considers the charming new resident who looks exactly like a man she once knew – a man who died sixty years ago. His arrival has stirred distant memories she and Elsie thought they’d laid to rest. Lying prone in the front room, Florence wonders if a terrible secret from her past is about to come to light…

Why Do I Want to Read It?

I loved Cannon’s debut novel, The Trouble with Goats and Sheep, and bought this at an event at Waterstones last summer.  I don’t like Battenberg in the slightest, but I do love the cover, and hopefully I’ll get around to reading this soon.  I’ve included in my 20 Books of Summer reading list, so hopefully that will help bump it up the TBR!
