This Week in Books is a feature hosted by Lipsy at Lipsyy Lost and Found that allows bloggers to share:
- What they’ve recently finished reading
- What they are currently reading
- What they are planning to read next
A similar meme is run by Taking on a World of Words.
A bit of a slow reading week, but I finished Prima Facie by Suzie Miller.
This is not life. This is law.
Tessa Ensler is a brilliant barrister who’s forged her career in criminal defence through sheer determination. Since her days at Cambridge, she’s carefully disguised her working class roots in a male-dominated world where who you know is just as important as what you know. Driven by her belief in the right to a fair trial and a taste for victory, there’s nothing Tessa loves more than the thrill of getting her clients acquitted.
It seems like Tessa has it made when she is approached for a new job and nominated for the most prestigious award in her field. But when a date with a charismatic colleague goes horribly wrong, Tessa finds that the rules she’s always played by might not protect her, forcing her to question everything she’s ever believed in . . .
So that Eva doesn’t fall out with me, I’m now reading In the Blink of an Eye by Jo Callaghan. OK – not just for that reason, although that is a part of it! 😂
In the UK, someone is reported missing every 90 seconds.
Just gone. Vanished. In the blink of an eye.
DCS Kat Frank knows all about loss. A widowed single mother, Kat is a cop who trusts her instincts. Picked to lead a pilot programme that has her paired with AIDE (Artificially Intelligent Detective Entity) Lock, Kat’s instincts come up against Lock’s logic. But when the two missing person’s cold cases they are reviewing suddenly become active, Lock is the only one who can help Kat when the case gets personal.
AI versus human experience.
Logic versus instinct.
With lives on the line can the pair work together before someone else becomes another statistic?
My next read might be The Rush by Beth Lewis.
Gold fever has taken him. I believe he means to kill me…
Canada, 1898. The gold rush is on in the frozen wilderness of the Yukon. Fortunes are made as quickly as they’re lost, and Dawson City has become a lawless settlement.
In its midst, three women are trying to survive on the edge of civilisation. Journalist Kate has travelled hundreds of miles after receiving a letter from her sister, who fears that her husband will kill her. Martha’s hotel and livelihood are under threat from the local strongman, who is set on buying up the town. And down by the river, where gold shimmers from between the rocks, Ellen feels her future slip away as her husband fails to find the fortune they risked so much to seek.
When a woman is murdered, Kate, Martha and Ellen find their lives, fates and fortunes intertwined. But to unmask her killer they must navigate a desperate land run by dangerous men who will do anything for a glimpse of gold…
And that’s my week in books! What are you reading this week? Let me know in the comments! 😎

It maybe a slow week, Jo, but it looks like you’re having a fab one! x
It could be worse, couldn’t it?! 😂
Finally! 😂
You should definitely read The Rush next. It is SO good!
Also, I have finished one book so far this month. My slowness beats yours easily 😜.
A promise is a promise! And I’m enjoying it so far 🤗
I’m not sure about “easily”, but I hope your reading picks up x
I quite fancy The Rush!
Sounds great, doesn’t it? I’ve loved everything from Beth Lewis, so I have high hopes for this one.
I have The Rush waiting on my kindle…I have high hopes!
Same! She’s never let me down yet x
I liked the Jo Callaghan and have read the next in the series as well.
I’m really enjoying it!
It is clever.
