Monthly Wrap Up

The month that was… April 2025

April has been… mixed to say the least. My OH and I took a trip to France, driving down to Fontainebleau. We took his sister and her two boys with us, stopping off at Parc Asterix on the way which was a lot of fun. We were lucky with the weather for the whole trip as well – it was warm and sunny throughout. We also stopped off in Paris on the way back, and I was able to visit Shakespeare and Company again where I may have obtained a book or two.

In worse news, work is… not great right now. We’re going through a significant restructure, with some 200 roles to be made redundant. In a company of approx. 1,000 people, that’s… significant. I know that my role doesn’t exist in the new structure and so I’m currently “at risk” although I’m assured there is a (not too dissimilar) role for me if I want it. But do I want it, that’s the question? We’ll see what happens.

So, between travel and a distinct lack of motivation, I’ve not been blogging much, and even my reading has taken a hit. I think I’ve just about dodged a reading slump, but it was close.

My favourite books this month

  • Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr
  • The Gathering by C. J. Tudor
  • Dead Ground by M. W. Craven

I also read / reviewed:

  • High Vaultage by Chris Sugden and Jen Sugden
  • Perspectives by Laurent Binet, translated by Sam Taylor
  • Once Was Willem by M. R. Carey

I also shared some of my most anticiapted reads for Q2.

Books acquired

More books than intended this month, but I regret nothing! 😂

TBR Watch

I bought more than planned, and read fewer 🤷🏻‍♀️

And that’s my bookish month! I hope yours was better than mine.

  1. Sorry to hear about the stressful times, Jo. Not a comfortable position to be in, job-wise. Although, I suppose slightly better than the ones who will definitely be leaving. Hopefully there will be some good news for you soon! xx

  2. I’m sorry to hear about your job predicament, Jo! I hope May will make things clear and treats you better xx

    1. Thank you, Kelly! While it’s painful right now, I am hopeful that it will all be resolved soon! x

    1. Thank you, Yesha – it’s been a varied month, and hopefully I’ll have some stability soon.
