This Week in Books – 15-01-25

This Week in Books is a feature hosted by Lipsy at Lipsyy Lost and Found that allows bloggers to share:

  • What they’ve recently finished reading
  • What they are currently reading
  • What they are planning to read next

A similar meme is run by Taking on a World of Words.

I finished The Queen of Fives by Alex Hay. Review to come, but I really enjoyed this!

They whisper her name in every corner of town.
The lady with a hundred faces, a thousand lives.
Five moves, five days – for such are the rules of her game.

1898. Quinn Le Blanc, London’s most talented con woman, has five days to pull off the seemingly impossible: trick an eligible duke into marriage and lift a fortune from the richest family in England.

Masquerading as a wealthy debutante, Quinn is the jewel of the season. Her brilliant act opens doors to the grand drawing rooms and lavish balls of high society – and propels her into the inner circle of her target: the corrupt, charismatic Kendals.

But as she spins in and out of their world, Quinn becomes tangled in a dangerous web of love, lies and loyalty. The Kendal family all have secrets of their own, and she may not be the only one playing a game of high deception…

I’m currently reading The Inheritance by Trisha Sakhlecha, which will be published in February.

Most family reunions end in tears. This one will end in murder.

On a private island off the west coast of Scotland, the Agarwals gather for a much-awaited family reunion…

Raj, the patriarch and business tycoon, who has six weeks to decide how to split his petrochemicals empire between his three children.
Shalini, the fragile mother, who longs to see her family healed.
Myra, the eldest daughter and golden child, who, unbeknownst to the family, is on the brink of bankruptcy.
Aseem, the son and supposed heir, who must choose between his wife and his family.
Aisha, the fun-loving youngest daughter, who is tired of being treated like a child.
And Zoe, the outsider whose #Instaperfect life is built on a foundation of lies.

They’ve all got secrets that they would die to protect.

But only one of them is capable of murder.

My next read might be The Artist by Lucy Steeds.

PROVENCE, 1920

Ettie moves through the remote farmhouse, silently creating the conditions that make her uncle’s artistic genius possible.

Joseph, an aspiring journalist, has been invited to the house. He believes he’ll make his name by interviewing the reclusive painter, the great Edouard Tartuffe.

But everyone has their secrets. And, under the cover of darkness, Ettie has spent years cultivating hers.

Over this sweltering summer, everyone’s true colours will be revealed.

Because Ettie is ready to be seen.
Even if it means setting her world on fire.

And that’s my week in books! What are you reading this week? Let me know in the comments! 😎

    1. I finished it last night and really enjoyed it. It’s got toxic family relationships, unlikeable characters, guilt, resentment… you almost forget that there’s a murder in the story at all!
