This Week in Books is a feature hosted by Lipsy at Lipsyy Lost and Found that allows bloggers to share:
- What they’ve recently finished reading
- What they are currently reading
- What they are planning to read next
A similar meme is run by Taking on a World of Words.
The last book I finished reading was The Bone Hunters by Joanne Burn.
In 1824, Lyme Regis is as tumultuous as the sea that surrounds it. Wealthy holidaymakers dance in the Assembly Rooms whilst the poor riot over the price of bread, scientists do battle with theologists, and amidst it all, one woman is about to make an extraordinary discovery.
When twenty-four-year-old Ada Winters – poor, peculiar and brilliant – uncovers a set of unusual fossils on the cliffs, she believes she has found the answer to her scientific frustrations and her family’s financial struggles.
Meanwhile, Doctor Edwin Moyle has come to Dorset in search of the discovery that will place him amongst the greatest geologists of the age. What he finds instead is a strange young woman who seems to hold the key to everything he seeks.
But what is the creature that Ada and Edwin seek to unearth? And will it be their means to greatness, or destruction?
I’ve just started reading The Queen of Fives by Alex Hay because the temptation became too much! 😂
They whisper her name in every corner of town.
The lady with a hundred faces, a thousand lives.
Five moves, five days – for such are the rules of her game.
1898. Quinn Le Blanc, London’s most talented con woman, has five days to pull off the seemingly impossible: trick an eligible duke into marriage and lift a fortune from the richest family in England.
Masquerading as a wealthy debutante, Quinn is the jewel of the season. Her brilliant act opens doors to the grand drawing rooms and lavish balls of high society – and propels her into the inner circle of her target: the corrupt, charismatic Kendals.
But as she spins in and out of their world, Quinn becomes tangled in a dangerous web of love, lies and loyalty. The Kendal family all have secrets of their own, and she may not be the only one playing a game of high deception…
My next read might be The Witching Tide by Margaret Meyer.
That’s a good thing about you, Martha. You keep secrets…
East Anglia, 1645. Martha Hallybread, a midwife, healer and servant, is a trusted figure in her beloved coastal village of Cleftwater – even though no one has ever heard her speak.
One day, the peaceful atmosphere is disrupted by the arrival of a witch-hunter, and suspicion threatens to tear the community apart. When Martha is drawn into the search, she finds herself torn between protecting herself or her friends. As the tide of suspicion builds and events hurtle towards a terrible reckoning, Martha’s silence is a choice that could cost her everything.
And that’s my week in books! What are you reading this week? Let me know in the comments! 😎

If I’d had a copy of Alex Hay’s new book, I would have dived in immediately as well so I don’t blame you! 😄
I’m liking it so far!
Love that you gave into the temptation to start reading The Queen of Fives! 😂 x
How could I resist?! It’s good so far x
