Monthly Wrap Up

The month that was… July 2023

July was a lot of fun.  I started off the month with a weekend in Leeds where I went to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show live for the first time.  I’ve never actually seen the film so went in knowing only the barest bones of plot.  So. Much. Fun.  I loved it, and particularly the level of audience participation.  I have to admit that I felt rather square in my perfectly acceptable but entirely unadventurous outfit though – it’s definitely one I want to dress up for if I get the opportunity to see it again.  How far I’m willing to go remains to be seen…

This was followed by a weekend in Masham in Yorkshire, which I’ve apparently been pronouncing incorrectly (it’s Massam, according to the locals!).  This was another small getaway where my OH and I went on a tour of the Black Sheep brewery.  To be honest, beers aren’t really my sort of thing, but the tour was enjoyable and informative, and he certainly enjoyed sampling a beer or two afterwards!

This month has been a bit hit and miss in terms of blogging – I started off reasonably well, but haven’t been feeling great over the last week or so (nothing serious – just a bit lethargic and rundown) and decided to take some down time.  It does mean that I’m a little behind where I wanted to be with my reviews and 20 Books of Summer 2023 (I’ve read 14 and reviewed 12), but I’ve got time to catch up over the next month… I think! 😬

Books Read and Reviewed

  • Read in June, reviewed in July:

Favourite Books This Month

I also put together a list of some of the books that I’m particularly excited about seeing published in Q3.

Books Acquired

I had every intention of behaving myself this month and limiting my purchases given my extravagance in Hay, but that resolution didn’t last long…

TBR Watch

It could be worse!

  • Books out = 9 read + 3 DNF* + 2 culled** = 14
  • Books in = 11 purchases
  • Gives a reduction of 3 in my TBR

*I may come back to the DNFs at a later date, but for now they have been removed from my TBR.

**There were a couple of books that no longer appealed, and my view has always been that life’s too short to read books that you’re not enjoying or have simply changed your mind about. I’ve passed these two on to a good home where they’ll be more appreciated.

    1. I’d say it’s a problem, but I honestly have no regrets! 😀

Thank you, Eva – I’m getting there x

    1. I do plan to watch the film now, but I really do want to see the show again!

Thank you, Nicki – it feels almost autumnal at the moment, so you and Eva may well be correct! x

  1. Oh I see The House Keepers, Looking Glass Sound and Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I have all of those on my TBR. I really would like to get to Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow this year.

    1. That’s the challenge isn’t it – reading all the wonderful books that we pick up. I have read The Housekeepers and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope you get to Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow 🙂

      1. I been getting rid of a lot of books and sadly some were books I didn’t end up reading. I just don’t have the space for them. Then I was traveling the other day and was like well I could use a new book. I stopped myself but it was hard esp with it being a book I really wanted. I also was thinking about picking up Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I somehow had self control.

        1. Ha – you clearly have more self control than me, I’d have bought the book, and probably at least one extra as well! 😂
