June seems to have passed by VERY quickly – I’m really not sure where the month (or the first half of the year!), has gone. I’m delighted that book shops are open now. I took a visit to my local independent bookshop at the weekend, and it was really nice to be there. Browsing felt a little odd though, even with the precautions they’ve put in place – it felt wrong to touch things if I wasn’t intending to buy them, which is difficult with books, as I like to read a little before buying as an indication of whether I’m likely to enjoy it. Paranoia on my part, I think, or perhaps a new habit from the last few months…
I posted nine reviews in June, and my favourite reads amongst these were:
- The Corset by Laura Purcell
- Within the Sanctuary of Wings by Marie Brennan
- True Story by Kate Reed Petty
I also reviewed:
- Black Powder War by Naomi Novik
- A Hundred Million Years and a Day by Jean-Baptiste Andrea
- To Tell You the Truth by Gilly Macmillan
- The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep by H. G. Parry
- Highfire by Eoin Colfer
- Who Did You Tell? by Lesley Kara
I also posted two mini reviews featuring The Holdout by Graham Moore and A Caribbean Mystery by Agatha Christie. This month saw the start of 20 Books of Summer, and I’ve made a good start to the challenge. I’ve read nine of my twenty books, and have posted reviews for six of these – the other three are coming, I promise! 😎
TBR Watch
I think that all I can say about by TBR pile at the moment is that is has decreased in the last month. Only by three, but it’s still progress! I have almost cleared by backlist, however, with only two books purchased prior to 2020 still to read. I’m hoping to tackle both of these during July, but we’ll see how it goes!
